Speaking at the Workplace Ninja Summit 2024

Next week it’s time again for the annual Workplace Ninja Summit in Lucerne, Switzerland. The summit will start on Monday September 16th till Thursday September 19th. The Workplace Ninja summit is organized by the different Workplace Ninja user groups and consists of many Microsoft community heroes like Mirko Colemberg, Thomas Kurth, Daniel Schädler, Kenny Buntinx, Peter Daalmans, Alexander Benoit, Oliver Kieselbach, Stefan Beckmann, Alex Verboon, Seraina Steinemann and Frans Oudendorp.

For this years summit, we are back at beautiful Lucerne, where the event will be held in the Lucerne Culture and Congress Centre.

The summit will host more than 100 sessions on topics like: Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Configuration Manager, Microsoft Security, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Sentinel, Microsoft Entra, PowerShell, Azure Virtual Desktop & Windows 365.

I have the pleasure to host 3 sessions during this summit:

  1. Conditional Access, from basic to advanced: Part 1, basic scenarios
  2. Conditional Access, from basic to advanced: Part 2, advanced scenarios
  3. One Year of fighting adversary-in-the-middle, notes from the field

Conditional Access, from basic to advanced: Part 1, basic scenarios

This session will be on Wednesday September 18th, starting at 15:20

Abstract: This session, which is part 1 of a 2 part workshop, Kenneth van Surksum will take your Microsoft Entra Conditional Access knowledge from basic to advanced. In part 1, we will go through the basics of designing and implementing Conditional Access. Kenneth will explain what Conditional Access is, how to create your own Conditional Access policies and will share his best practices based on years of experience implementing Conditional Acces at many customers. Kenneth will share his basic set of Conditional Access policies, to give you a head start for your own Conditional Access implementation.

Conditional Access, from basic to advanced: Part 2, advanced scenarios

This session will continue right after Part 1, will be held on September 18th, starting at 16:40

Abstract: This session, which is part 2 of a 2 part workshop, Kenneth van Surksum will take your Microsoft Entra Conditional Access knowledge from basic to advanced. In part 2, we will go through the advanced scenarios you can implement with Conditional Access allowing you to take your Conditional Access policies one step further. Kenneth will talk about integrating Conditional Access with Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps and Microsoft Purview, but will also explain how to leverage Authentication Context, Authentication Strength, Authentication Flow, Filters and more.

One Year of fighting adversary-in-the-middle, notes from the field

This session which I will co-present with Erik Loef, is on Thursday September 19th and starts at 12:40

Abstract: Last 1,5 year we were faced with a new advanced phishing technique, called Adversary-in-The-Middle (AiTM). This is an advanced method to phish authentication tokens.

In this session Kenneth and Erik will do a deep dive into this topic. First of all, we’ll start with a small demo of the AiTM case. Then we will go through our options to fight this by using different strategies like implementing phishing resistant MFA methods or using simple Conditional Access policies, and/or advanced Entra ID P2 Protection methods.

After this session you will have enough information to stop this attack in several ways each with its own advantages and drawbacks.

Workplace Ninja User Group Netherlands gathering on Wednesday September 18th

On Wednesday September 18th, we have also organized a get-together with the fellow Workplace Ninja User Group Netherlands visitors. For this we have found a really nice location, the Suite rooftop and lounge bar in Lucerne. The event will start at 18:00 and we will be joined by the Workplace Ninja User Group Denmark, and the Microsoft Cloud and Client Management Community (MC2MC) from Belgium. If you are from the Netherlands and also on the Workplace Ninja summit, we happily invite you to join us, you can do that by RSVPing here: https://www.meetup.com/wpninjasnl/events/303407045/
